Temagami First Nation

Temagami First Nation’s Administration Office is located on Bear Island, which is a one square mile Indian Reserve in the middle of Lake Temagami. Temagami First Nation is an Indian Act governing body that represents approximately 800 members who are recognized at Status Indians under the Indian Act. The larger citizenry of the Teme Augama Anishnabai consists of both Status and non-Status individuals who have occupied their Traditional Homeland – n’Daki Menan – since time immemorial. The community of Bear Island is the permanent residence of 250 First Nation members and sustains the government institutions of the Temagami First Nation, while preserving the integrity of the Teme Augama Anishnabai as stewards of n’Daki Menan.

Temagami Forest Management Corporation

The Temagami Management Unit (TMU) is within the North Bay administrative district of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). The Temagami Management Unit is situated north of North Bay and south of Elk Lake. It is bounded by Lake Timiskaming to the east, the Sudbury Forest to the west, the Timiskaming Forest to the north, and the Nipissing Forest to the south.

We are the property owners’ association for the Lake Temagami, Ontario region and are dedicated to ensuring that the “Tenets For Temagami” are embedded in all planning documents for the Municipality of Temagami. We are also concerned with environmental issues (including invasive species), and have implemented a water-quality-monitoring program for the Lake through Temagami Environmental Research and Stewardship (TERAS).

Temagami Lions Club

The Temagami Lions Club is a small but a very active club within the Municipality of Temagami. The Lions Club supports and contributes to many programs within the community such as: the Food Bank; Seniors Christmas dinner; Educational Bursaries for secondary school grads; Support of our Local Health facility; Fund raising for the North Bay and Temiskaming hospitals; collection of used of glasses for poorer countries; Collection of usable clothing for Diabetes research; clothing for the homeless and Battered Women in North Bay.

The Temagami Lions are presently fund raising in support of the Temagami Fire Department for the purchase of battery-operated Vehicle Extraction Equipment worth $60,000.00.
